Christmas has a ton of fun things to do.
What is your favorite thing to do during the holiday season? Do you decorate the outside or your house and aim to have the best display in the neighborhood? Maybe you bake cookies for family, friends, and coworkers. Some people love the thrill of the hunt, tracking down the perfect gift for everyone on their list. Others love cooking the Christmas feast.
But me…? My favorite thing to do during the holidays is….
Christmas music and movies!!!!
I add all the Christmas stations to my radio. I ask Alexa to play me Christmas stations. I sing along. I sing carols in the shower. I just love singing along period. This time of year, I listen to all genres from oldies to country to pop. My all-time favorite though is Bing Crosby. I could listen to all his albums over and over again (and often do!). (I won’t tell you that I am currently listening to him while writing this). My favorite by him has Mele Kalikimaka, even before I set foot on Hawaii. It’s just such a fun song.
My other favorite album is Once Upon a Christmas by Dolly Parton and Kenny Rodgers. Or Garth Brooks Beyond the Season. If you haven’t heard these yet, I highly recommend them.
And on the opposite end of the spectrum? Boyz II Men Christmas Interpretations.
Hopefully, you enjoy these as much as I do! Please let me know your favorite songs or albums! I can always use more!!!
There are three types of Christmas movies. 1) The real ones. 2) The Christmas adjacent movies. 3) The Lifetime/Hallmark/Made for TV movies. I love one and three. I can watch two any time of year but one and three are always reserved for December viewing.
The real ones include such classics as Christmas Vacation, Elf, and Bad Santa. Also, included are newcomers like The Night Before and (hopefully) Bad Mom’s Christmas. We own all of these and watch them every year. I also watch Holiday Inn and White Christmas. Other people prefer Miracle on 34th Street and It’s a Wonderful Life. Obviously, this isn’t a complete list or I’d have a blog post a million pages long.
Christmas adjacent movies are those like Die Hard. They happen to take place around the holiday. There are several of these and every year I hear people adding more to the list. I ignore these. These movies I can watch any time of year and the holiday isn’t the focus of the movie. You can count and watch these movies if you like. This is just my personal opinion.
The last category is the cheesy made for tv movies, usually about one party is a holiday grump and the other isn’t. They meet. Argue. Fall in love. And the scrooge becomes a holiday fanatic. The last few years seemed to have every new version starring either Candance Cameron Bure or Lacey Chabert. I have a tendency to watch these types of movies on the weekend when I am working around the house. You don’t have to pay close attention because you know what the plot will be.
What is your favorite holiday movie? (You can even tell me your favorite holiday adjacent movie if you prefer).
