Buying Art: What Should You Pick?
When buying art people often ask what should I get? What do you sell the most of? And other similar questions. I often hesitate to answer these type of questions because art is so personal. I can tell you my most popular image is Blue Truck and most people buy it as a matted print but what if you don’t like vintage looking cars? Or what if your home clashes with the baby blue truck? It won’t go and you may not be happy with your purchase. And I want you to be happy and LOVE your artwork.
When you are in the market for art and aren’t sure what you want I’d love to talk to you and help pick out the perfect piece for you and your home (or office). You are always welcome to email me at email@example.com with any questions or concerns you may have. Or you can use this blog post as a guide to help you decide.
A quick guide to buying art
- Decide on the size you need. Where will you hang it? Do you need one large piece or a few smaller works for a gallery wall? Know how big, or small, you need. Helpful hint: cut out paper the size you think you need and hang it on the wall. Does it fill the space well? Many times we don’t realize how big of art we really need. Big walls call for big prints and an 8×10 would look silly.
- Pick your image. What speaks to you? Which image stands out to you? Also, keep in mind the space it will be displayed. What colors are in the room? Do you want something bold or muted? Color or black and white? If you have a bird themed bedroom, the blue truck image might look strange there but a print of a bird would fit right in.
- Decide on your medium. J Volden Photography currently offers prints, fine art prints (special order), leather canvas, and metal prints. Each medium has pluses and minuses but ultimately it’s what you like and will work with your space. Helpful hint: Read through the products page to learn a little about each medium and see a few examples.
- Order your top pick and wait patiently for it to arrive. Or wait with the excitement of a kid going to Disneyworld for the first time. Whichever works for you.
