Couples photography doesn’t always have to mean an engagement or wedding.
Sometimes couples deserve to treat themselves to a date night or in-home session. This lovely couple wanted to capture some fun moments in-home. Before deciding, I asked several questions to get a feel for what they wanted. I like to get as close to real life as possible so we talked about capturing their usual weekend routing, like going to the Costco and Starbucks. After some brainstorming and back and forth we decided to capture their cuddle time.
They love watching TV and movies on the couch and cuddling. Something they used to do much more before kids. I’m sure many of you can relate. Now it’s a naptime or late night only. And even then, naptime can be interrupted when a toddler is tired of napping and knows something is going on in the living room! We were interrupted a few times.
I try to document as close to real life as possible but sometimes couples (or families) need some prompts to get them relaxed, and sometimes even laughing.
I have some lovey prompts but most of them are funny. I think those get the best responses. Especially since a few times, I started cracking up just as much as the did! But I made sure to do a few sweet prompts to get those special moments only couples can share.
We also took a quick trip to the park when the toddler woke up. I was able to get some great shots there but the day was super windy and cold (for Phoenix) and the toddler wanted to go home. I declare that this couple session turned out great!
What would your couples photography session look like? What do you and your love like to do together?
