Hockey is back, tell a friend!
Hockey is my absolute favorite sport. I’m not sure I’ve really written or shared a lot about sports. Since today is our first Coyotes pre-season game I am sharing hockey memories.
Today’s memory keeping edition is a bit different. I have been pulling real photos, film! And writing about the memories evoked by flipping through physical albums. For today, I went to my Facebook albums and pulled a few photos. I love the memories portion of Facebook because I love reading through old posts and comments and looking at photos. Next month I will go back to the film prints. But for now… enjoy a more digital memory. Neither way is wrong or better, just different.
When I moved to Phoenix in 2006 I didn’t know anyone. I met some people through work and we started going to a few hockey games. I was already a hockey fan but had only watched my high school team live and the Flyers on TV. I wasn’t too familiar with the Coyotes. I fell.in love with the team despite their loser reputation and record. Their captain, Shane Doan, was all heart and soul. And their coach was Wayne Gretzky. THE greatest hockey player! (Yah, he wasn’t the greatest coach but that’s for another discussion).
I got season tickets and started meeting more fans. Some were not the best people but I ended up meeting two of my closest, bestest friends through the Coyotes. We tailgate before games. We get together outside of hockey. We help each other with relationships, business and whatever else comes up.
I owe hockey for bringing these women into my life.
Oh yah, and I met the love of my life through hockey. Minor detail. 😘
And now I am trying to make sure my nephew is a future hockey player. Or fan. I’ll take fan too. For Christmas, he got a Zamboni, a jersey and a stack of books for kids. I made sure to read them all. Peter Puck has some great stories!
How did you meet your best friend(s) and/or love of your life? How do you keep these memories fresh in your mind?
I’d love to reorganize my digital photos and print them off instead of depending on Facebook. Do you make photo books from your digital photos? How do you keep your digital memories? I’d love some ideas!
