Do you remember those long summer days when you couldn’t wait to get outside?
You’d race your sibling and friends to the park, kick off your shoes and socks, and run barefoot through the grass. You’d climb to the top of the jungle gym and survey the entire playground like it was your kingdom. On the swings, you’d pump as hard as your little legs could because the higher you go, the more it feels like you could fly.
These were the days when your only worry was being home by the time the street lights came on. If you weren’t, mom and dad would make you stay in the next night without anything fun to do. The days were longer then. It felt like you had hours after dinner to run and play.
But do you have any photos from that time?
I don’t. I wish I did. I can imagine those days in my mind still but the memories are slowly fading. I can picture the park behind our house but I’m not sure about the details. Having moved away several years ago, I can’t go back and see it. I imagine it’s changed in the 30-ish years since I frequented it. But if I had a photo of me and my friends running around, having a good time I could easily remember those days.
Playground sessions offer a lot of opportunities for fun images. From the basketball court to swings and everything in between, watching your kids run around and play makes for a fun day. Throw in your children’s imagination and the playground can open up a whole other world! Maybe they are pirates and the jungle gym is their ship. Or the sand is hot lava (or quicksand – seriously thought quicksand would be a thing I had to deal with often as a kid) and they have to avoid it as much as possible. The entire family can get involved with pushing younger ones on the swing or playing basketball or tag as a family.
What was your favorite part of the playground as a kid? I was partial to the swing, still am! I love the feeling of pumping my legs to get more air and the wind in my face.
