Nesting is usually associated with pregnant women.

But what if you feel the urge to nest and you aren’t pregnant? I tried to google nesting but everything seemed to revolve around being pregnant and creating your dream nursery. Then I thought, why not just write about the topic?
I think I am equating nesting with growing up. I have been in my current house since 2009 and I finally want to make it feel like a home. It all started a few years ago. I started buying wall decor and items for my pot shelf. I painted another room in the house (although I have decided that is too big of a project for me to tackle alone. The rest of my walls will be white unless I hire someone). And then I became stuck. I couldn’t find anything I liked and I had no direction to go in.
Over the last year, I have become obsessed with organizing my belongings and cleaning out items I don’t use. I have been going through each room and tossing or donating items. I scoured Ikea for organizing ideas. I want everything to have a place and for my house to look as clean and clutter-free as a magazine photo (impossible standards lol).
We recently upgraded our couch and living room tables, which has seemed to pushed me over the edge into complete nesting mode. We need art for the walls, throw pillows, new lamps. Then there is the need to complete the backyard. My backyard is dirt and now has a nice rectangle of fake grass.

I have set up an art corner in our office. I now have a place to create (and store all the photography gear).
I also have several home projects in mind, including refinishing some furniture. I have colors and ideas for the bedroom and kitchen. Eventually, I would like to update my dishes. I am still using the set my parents gave me. It’s retro 80s so it’s cool again. At least that is what I am telling myself.
You can’t force decorating. It needs to be organic. I always seem to find what I want when I am not really looking. I often wander through stores like Kohls and Target and check the sale or clearance. I always find my favorite pieces while not really looking. When I start looking for specific items, I can’t find anything I like and get frustrated. Always keep your eyes open, you never know what you will find!
Maybe it’s because I am getting old, maybe it’s the new furniture but I have a strong need to make our house a home.
Maybe I have finally found home.
Have you ever had the urge to nest? What home projects do have in mind? Where is your favorite place to shop for the home? I need some ideas!
