September is self-improvement month. Now is the time to set a new goal and maybe start that new art hobby you’ve been putting off.
Have you always wanted to be an artist? Nows the time to start working on your goal! You have 30 fresh days to work toward your goal. You don’t need to do it all at once, just a little each day is all you need.
First, clear some time and space for your new hobby. Make a note on your calendar or to do list each day. Set up a comfortable spot to work. If you aren’t comfy, you won’t want to do it. Keep all your tools in the space too – get a tote or cart to organize and store everything. Keeping tools handy and organized makes it easy to grab what you need/want.
Starting a new hobby is all about making it easy to do!
Second, set some goals or expectations. What do you want to accomplish this month? Start small and build up. You may not be able to paint a masterpiece in 30 days, but you can master different brush strokes or techniques.
Third, get your learn on! Grab a book, watch a YouTube video, anything that helps you improve. There are a ton of free resources online for everything. Hop on google and check out different tutorials. And if you want to dig deeper, you can find all kinds of online courses at various price points.
Use that library card! You can get books, documentaries, and even courses for free from your local library.
Lastly, practice! You can’t improve without doing. Every day take at least 15 minutes to work on your hobby. You can do more, but 15 is a good minimum. Those days you don’t want to do your hobby, do 15 minutes. You won’t regret it and most times you’ll keep going. (I do this with exercise often and it really works.)
Crisp air and falling leaves are the perfect backdrop to self-improvement. Set yourself a goal and work on it for 30 days. After that it will feel like a natural part of your daily life.
