One of my favorite things to do in summer is hopping in the car, roll down the windows, and blast some Sublime. I can hear Bradley Nowell singing “summertime and the livings easy Bradley’s on the mic with ras m.g.”. It takes me right back to my high school years (yes, probably dating myself here).
What’s your favorite memory of summertime?
Do you have one thing that sticks out, or is it more like a montage of different things? For me, it’s a montage of high school and college summers. It brings to mind long nights under the stars, going to shows, and driving around with the sunroof open, music up, and belting out songs at the top of our lungs. I think of Riverfest and good friends. Days at the river. Nights at Perkins.
Of course, I worked too. But mostly weeknights and weekend mornings. That left a lot of weekdays open. And back then, I could survive on a few hours of sleep.
I think of the places we spent time at. The Warehouse. Jules when we wanted cappuccino ice cream floats. The Pearl for homemade ice cream. We would get out ice cream and walk down to Riverside park, and people watch.
Warped Tour was always a fun road trip. We would head to Minneapolis or Milwaukee and enjoy the entire day in the sun. I spent my summers in the midwest. They were warm, humid, and rainy. Pretty much the opposite of Phoenix.
What memories do you want to make this summer?
We have a camping trip scheduled for July. Hopefully, we will still be able to make it, but if not, we may do some day trips to off-road up north. I also plan to keep running and on my 40th birthday, run a marathon. Yes, I might be a little crazy. It’s all about staying cool and safe.
When I spend time outside, it’s early morning or sunset. I pile on the sunscreen. I make sure to drink plenty of water. I also drink electrolytes, especially when I spend time outside. If I had a pool, I’d probably spend my spare time there.
